to sustain, care for and continue
multi-national acquisitions.

STATEMENT

We oppose NZ National Library's mass disposals and call for—

Greater transparency from the National Library of NZ
to allow for informed evaluation and public accountability.

Ask New Zealanders what they think about the subject
(not only a handful of researchers or professionals
belonging to the NL inner circle)

Enlarge the public debate!
What sort of cultural policy do NZers want?
What is the use of a national library in a country like New Zealand?
Is it reasonable to stop acquiring books from overseas?

Educational:
Ask the teachers what they think.

Digitisation:
what is the impact of digitisation on knowledge and human cognition --
what do we know about this actually, from a scientific point of view?

Historical and Inter-relational
Study other National Libraries of the world.
Apparently, New Zealand is the only one acting so brutally.
Other countries are buying books to complement digitisation
not to replace their collections.
What is their reasoning for this?
